Welcome! This site contains mostly recent images that with some help have taken on a new life. I call them, for want of a better name,
PHOTOPAINTINGS.
What is a Photopainting? It is a digital photograph that has been manipulated; the colors are saturated, the detail diffused, with some elements removed, some added. The resulting image has many of the qualities of a painting. The source image provides most of the structure, but for me, manipulation of the image adds a surprising emotional impact. It feels like pulling a painting out of a photograph, hence the working title.
I am in the process of printing these images via giclee in small format (8"x10", with archival inks and paper, but aim to create a few larger scale ones as well.
The key to this work is a strong element of play. I'm having a good time for a change!
Cheryl Crow wrote a song with the refrain; "All I want to do is have some fun."
I've got a feeling I'm not the only one.
Enjoy!
